When the company first went public in 1996, shares sold for a mere $16 each. In 2005, this number was already in the $28 range. In the same year, Hibbett had surpassed all previous records held at the time for biggest increases in net sales and income, as well as number of store openings.
In line with its obvious success, as of January 28th, 2012, Hibbett Sports, and its principal subsidiaries, (namely Hibbett Sports, Hibbett Team Sales, Inc., Sports Additions, and Sports & Co.) owned and operated about 832 stores in 26 states!
This includes 812 Hibbett Stores; 19 other sport centred stores under the Sports Addition subsidiary which sell athletic shoes; and one larger Sports & Co. superstore. Forbes goes on to mention that of these 832 Hibbett Sports stores, 203 were in enclosed malls and a further 629 stores operated profitably in strip-mall shopping centres.
By the end of 2012, Hibbett Sports had opened 49 additional stores and one more Sports & Co. stores. As of April 2017, the number of active locations was recorded as 1082!
Of course, Hibbett also has an eCommerce website, Hibbett.com which launched in 2017 with the goal of providing customers with a unique shopping experience – putting the retailer’s extensive array of sporting goods at the customers’ fingertips.
